Promised Rest
by vincent lyons

In bondage bound was Jacob's child
Making bricks by the River Nile;
His wailing voice reached God on high,
Who answered there His people's cry.

The rod of God in Moses' hand
Displays His power in Pharaoh's land'
The parted waters upright stand
In honour guard at God's command.

For forty years the wilderness
Beguiled the people God had blessed;
Their promised hope lay unpossessed;
Israel found no place of rest.

Through doubt, most never entered in,
Fell in the wilderness of Sin;
Beware lest we should be like them,
That unbelief would reign within.

The Rod of God is Jesus Christ;
By His atoning sacrifice,
He parts the sea twixt death and life;
To cross with Him is now our choice.

In Jesus is our promised rest,
Who clothes us in His righteousness;
He leads us through life's wilderness
And brings us home! May God be blessed!!
