The will of God cast in the Word
by Fenny West

The Will of God is the Word of God

The Will of God is the Word of God
Defines your food and direction
Very good, so long as you have heard
It points to your right destination.
It takes priority, pre-eminent
It releases grace that is sufficient.

But the problem is often my will
Like Jonah who fled to Tarshish
And there he was met with a hill
He had to cry in the belly of the fish
And God in His mercy saved him
As He began to repent and praise Him.

God's Will has a divine purpose;
To take you to your Promised Land;
Triumphing over those who oppose;
To put you at the centre of His plan
To prepare you, prune you
and prove you, fulfil you.

Yes, His will has a price attached
That price is often called the cross
But there's abundant grace to match
So your labour will be at no loss
No need to despair; no need to quit
He gives His Spirit with strength to fit.

After the price there will come the Prize
No suffering can be compared to it
That is why you need to lift your eyes
To Jesus who began and will finish it.
Hold on to the horns of His altar
Because He is alpha and Omega

Receive His peace, stay in the centre
Until you cross to the other side
You have a Saviour like no other
Yield to Him and let Him ride
You will surely come to your divine haven
That is why your home is in heaven.

Pray without ceasing for His will to be done
Pray in the Spirit and understanding
Enter, come now, boldly to His royal throne
Know that for you He is interceding
That in spite of what is sent by hell,
You too will finish and finish well.

The Will of God Cast in His Word
Priority
It is paramount, pre-eminent, takes first place, defines your direction, points to your destination and your vision. 'My food is to do the will of He who sent me and to finish it.'
"My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.John4:34
Problem the problem with the will of God is our will, wanting to go our own way, do our own thing like Jonah. (Jonah 1&2)
1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."
3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD.

Point or purpose
For this purpose you were born; to glorify Him to live for Him; to seek His will at all times. God has good plans for us.
11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jer29:11
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jer.1:5
Price
There is a cross for everyone to carry; yielding at to Him the crossroads of life is the price to pay for being in the Way and for the prize ahead. The will of God will challenge you, try you, prove you, prune you, refine you and hone you. It is not easy and you will come to the place where you cry, 'Lord, if it is possible, let this cup pass. Nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done.'

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23

Prize- There is a reward awaiting those who follow whole-heartedly, like Joshua and Caleb; the kingdom of God is there; you will have fulfilment, satisfaction and joy unspeakable and full of glory. 'Forgetting the past but reach forth to that which is ahead I press for the mark the prize'
12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Phil3:12-14

Peace- in His will you will have His peace that transcends all understanding, guarding your heart and mind like an umpire.
Pray His will
Prayer puts you in his will.
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Matt.6:10
26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
Rom.8:26-28
6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.

Passion- we must follow the will of God with all the fibre in our being; nothing must deter us; we must live it and breathe it, delight in it ad be consumed by it to be worthwhile.
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Matt 16:23

Pursuing- We must pursue the will of God purposefully, avoiding every distraction; we must not lose focus. 'Don't you know that I am about my Father's business?'
And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.
25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
1Cor.9:24-27

Presence- Doing His will assures us of His presence. 'I will be with him in trouble.' He shall call upon me and I will answer him.'

23Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.John14:23
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."
Ps91:14-16

Paves the way to heaven; it is not those who say, Lord, Lord that will go to heaven but those who do the will of the Father.'
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' Matt.7:21-23

Put paid to it.
It is to be finished. Finish it like He finished His and said, 'It is finished!
"I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the very work that the Father has given me to finish, and which I am doing, testifies that the Father has sent me.
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given methe task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace. Acts20:24
Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.2Cor.8:11
Like Paul finished his and said, '6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that dayand not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2Tim.4:6-8
