TROIS POEMES
by Richard L. Provencher

Journey of Desire

A slug of movement
meanders slowly
yellow-striped caterpillar
crossing the sidewalk

along depressions
as ravines
in the asphalt, almost
like walking on the moon

furry body desperate
for shade, sun in hot pursuit.

Shadows Flit

beneath a Spruce in a
camouflage of drooping
branches

hares peering frightfully
at rising snow banks
and mice gather for their daily
chorus of activity.

The wind is like a turbine
wind-milling an avalanche of flakes
against the farmhouse

as children huddle by the fire
mom--dad making plans
for tomorrow.

Among attic's collection of turmoil
pigeons cuddle
and coo dark but warm
on grandma's old comforter.

The Newspaperman

scatters snow
one hurried foot at
a time

while customers snore
through Rems of
comfortable dreams.

Tramping door to
door
he too dreams

when retirement
will allow him
to turn off the alarm
and relax in
the arms of his own
dear wife.
