HER SHOPPING poem
by Richard L. Provencher

Her Shopping

begins with a morning shuffle
of aged movement
makes the bed dress then breakfast.

Overweight purse in hand
the gray-haired lady
heads out on a mission
of necessity
sees sidewalk activity as bicycle
spokes in movement
she's up and down King then
Ridout to Main

arthritic limbs slow-marching
to destiny's door
Derringer's Meats in
downtown Hamilton a place
to satisfy any
shopping menu.

Her business is usually
dark German chocolate a tease
at the right price
chicken thighs also and 12 grain bread
browses the aisles for other
good deals selects
several crinkly packages. Don't

forget an avalanche of
food for pussycat. Steps a little
quicker pulling the food cart
to her small apartment. Impatient
meows await.
