Wilberforce, the Force
by Fenny West

Wilberforce, the force no one could ignore;
With a vision of which he was so sure;
Taking on the barons of slavery;
Battled against inhumanity.

Barricaded by obstacles, hurdles;
Soldiered on and on in the struggles.
His voice cried in the wilderness;
'Let us end this blindness, unkindness!'

Lit a light in the slavery dungeon,
That would send the traffic to oblivion.
Opposition, intimidation, came,
Yet his passion went in flames.

Barons, Bigotry, Filibuster came,
But William remained the same.
Sickness, Depression, ambushed,
Yet this man would not be hushed.

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth,
Yet identified with the plight of the south.
His life's purpose charged, 'William, Go!'
And so he charged, regardless of the foes.

The fire in his bones, no man could quench,
As he smelled the poisonous deadly stench.
He never saw the day of his dreams,
Yet he saw with the eyes of faith it seemed.

Do you have a dream, today, my friend?
Then I would say, never mind the fiend.
Ride on! Push past the post of opposition.
Press on, bring the vision to completion.
