Forgiveness
by Rhonda McKissack One Sunday in church I heard someone say Something that hurt me And it ruined my day Wednesday night meetings I feel like I am left out Of things that are important So I really start to pout At home it seems no different At work and everywhere It seems they're out to get me And they really just don't care Forgiveness they say Is what God says to do But it's easy to say When it's not done to you So the anger gets deeper And it seeps to the heart The pain becomes stronger And stings like a dart They don't deserve forgiveness! For what they did was wrong So with hatred and bitterness I go sat upon my throne But time brings sadness And I find myself alone Until there is no one Who hasn't done me wrong? Alone in the darkness Satan's at work He's aiding and abetting And wanting me to hurt So I cry out to my Father I don't want to live this way Forgive me for my anger And I kneel to him and pray He shows me in his holy word What they did to his own son Where Jesus said "Father forgive them" "For they know not what they've done" They slandered him with hurtful words And beat him to the ground But still he loved and cared for them The ones that let him down He loved us all so very much He died for us that day That we would be forgiven Each time we come to pray Jesus takes us to his Father And stands for us today And says that we are his now The price he had to pay So when I feel mistreated And sorrow gets me lost I take and give it to the one Who died upon the cross Bless the ones that hurt you And pray for them you see For you will get the blessing When Jesus sets you free For-give To forgive is to grant pardon without Harboring resentment. To pass over an offense and to free the offender from the consequences Rhonda McKissack is married and a mother of one teenage son.
