Swan Pond
by PamFord Davis

Will you soar like the eagle? Mankind is obsessed with speed; and expects instant results! In our quest for a Spirit filled life we yearn for maturity at an accelerated rate. In the spiritual realm growth is a process; and we can not rush the desired outcome.

Man travels at supersonic speed and continues to search for scientific advances. Slow and steady may work for the tenacious turtle; but the rabbit is likely to have more backing! Take time to study the birds and their beauty as they soar through space. Effortlessly they seem to float on thin air!

I grew up in a large family living on a modest income. There were few expensive outings and we truly appreciated any special treats. We did not have air conditioning and the sizzling summer heat could be uncomfortable. Dad telling us we were going for soft ice cream cones was very exciting! We had two ice cream stands close by. The favorite offered a free added attraction. "The Swan Pond" provided entertainment while we savored the cooling effects of our ice cream cones. Swans gracefully glided across the surface of the pond, barely causing a ripple. The swans were in no hurry to reach the other side; sitting up tall they were slowly drifting.

I am not a confident swimmer; so I prefer to always touch bottom. I do have the skill of floating on my back mastered! I don't know how it works; I do know it keeps me on the surface of the water! I just relax and the water keeps me from sinking. It is not a rapid movement. I don't believe it is an Olympics competition event! If I desire lasting spiritual growth I need to take the time needed, and then let the currents of the Holy Spirit carry me. (John 3:8) Eagles were created with all they needed to soar. We can keep them company! "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles (Isaiah 40:31a NKJ)."
