It All Depends on the Bolts
by Tara Roper

Have you ever sat and thought, soft or aloud,
how an airplanes' wings help us navigate through clouds?
They're so large, so sleek, so strong,
I'm surprised this revealation took so long.
I sit here in seat 27E,
grateful these wings carry me,
up and down and straight on through,
lifes' turbulence, some old, some new.
Each component of the wing, plays a part,
to keep us afloat in light and in dark.
There are some parts that slide in and draw back,
working together, no support do they lack.
From the million bolts holding strong,
Atlanta to Boston, and all flight long.
Keeping parts together, lifting us up high,
this harmony of metal, I won't question why.
But my mind wanders to , the larger metaphor,
to this Christian, these wings are so much more.
All these pieces working together,
compliment each other, no matter the weather.
When some parts draw in, others slide in close,
reminds me of my church, its not bragging to boast.
We help one another through our joys and our jolts.
We all depend on the strength of joining bolts.
So many parts, to make up the one,
carrying us through and reflecting the sun (son).
Bad weather may come, turbulence up and down,
parts come together to pull us around.
My ponderings of these wings, and the point of my story,
all parts are great as long as the bolts get the glory.

I am currently living in Milford, NH with my husband John, and our three children, Caroline, Maggie and Jacob. I am currently a fourth grade teacher. We have recently moved back to New England, and I thank God every day for the blessing of being close to my family.
