Daddy...Please!
by PamFord Davis

Did you ever tease your parents to try and get your own way? We've all seen children looking up into a parent's eyes pleading for a new toy, or permission to go on an exciting outing. The conversation usually goes something like this
"Daddy, can I go swimming?"

"Ask your mother."

"She said to ask you."

"Well, I don't know. Let me think about that for a while."

"Daddy, please let me go! I won't ask for another thing. Please say I can go!"

The ending varies; sometimes the parent is swayed. The pouting child often is sent to their room feeling disappointed! I am a middle child of five, and did not realize until about twenty years ago that my siblings used me! They knew our Dad would usually give me what I wanted; so they sent me to tease him for special treats! If they wanted to go out for ice cream or to the Drive Inn movies they sent me on the mission. I did not know I carried that much weight with my Dad

It seems that God's people even found middle men for their plans. "Now [the people of] Bethel had sent Sharezer, Regemmelech, and their men to plead for the Lord's favor (Zechariah 7:2 NKJ)." I'm glad to know Jesus broke down all barriers between us and God the Father. We need no middle men to tease God to listen to our requests. He loves to give us the desires of our hearts!
