Only If I had it my way
by Walter Tsuro If I had it my way All would be baptized by immersion Sprinkling of water to the forehead would I deter A flag waved over people's heads Would be done away with For the Lord, in a river, was baptized by immersion His whole body being dipped under water Only if I had it my way If I had it my way Church buildings would open everyday for meetings The church in Acts had daily prayer meetings And miracles followed, The lame at the beautiful gate is a testimony Only if I had it my way If I had it my way Preaching and teaching would be balanced If the Sunday morning service is set for preaching The evening service, subject to God, Would be reserved for teaching For the Lord went about teaching and preaching Only if I had it my way If I had it my way Fewer "prosperity" messages Would be heard from the pulpit For the Lord's compassion was: To save the sinners (fornicators, drunkards, abusers...); To heal the broken hearted (Suffering children, oppressed wives, dishonoured husbands); To restore the sick and the needy; To liberate the demon possessed & demon oppressed If I had it my way Instead of believing God for gold necklaces We would believe God and go make disciples Even to the utmost parts of the earth we would go. For if we suffer with Christ We also shall reign with Him If I had it my way The congregation would be exposed To all of the fivefold ministries, They would be adequately equipped by The apostles, prophets, Evangelists, pastors and teachers None would have stunted growth But in love would mature to be Christ-like Oh! How I wish I had it my way If I had it my way Church administration would appreciate In word and in deed Singers, ushers, media personnel, Elders, deacons... From any calendar month possessing five Sundays, A fifth of that month's income would be dedicated To openly appreciating all committed volunteers If I had it my way Daily there would be meat in my Father's house The tithes would cover Not only the Pastors and staff members But many others would partake. For the widows, the orphans and the needy Would have portion allocated to them (Maybe, I am just saying, maybe a tithe of the tithes). Only if I had it my way If I had it my way Believers would be of one heart, United in spirit and in truth Not concerned about privacy, They would visit for fellowship And genuinely know each other's welfares. Tea and biscuits would they have, Chatting about the goodness of their Saviour None would lack in that community If I had it my way The church programme would not limit the move of the Spirit Like a tree, it would sway under the gentle breeze of the Holy Spirit Should HE fancy for us to only sing, Then the entire service will we rejoice to His tune Only if I had it my way If I had it my way People would not be hurriedly promoted Their devotion to prayer and the word Would be taken into account We would never consider their bulging pockets Neither will their sparkling political careers dazzle our eyes Rather, the congregation would elect Leaders of an honest report, Full of the Spirit and wisdom Only if I had it my way If I had it my way I would remain meek To the pulpit alone would I carry my Bible Not having people unwarrantably ushering me about As if my own hands were cut off! Why should I let my fellow brother, Yea, my own brother, serve as if I were his king? For the Lord came to serve and not to be served Only if I had it my way Only if I had it my way Then all of you would walk in my ways For I am the way, the truth and the life.
