Today, I Am
by Bob Valleau

Before dawn, Judy kneeled in prayer as she had done so many times before. But this morning, she was burdened with a heavy heart. Judy's father, who was a popular pastor of a local church, died recently, and she was extremely saddened by his absence. No longer could she pick up the phone and tell him how much she loved him. No longer could she "pop in" for a visit and reminisce about a father-daughter moment when she was young. Although Judy knew her father was with the Lord and she was at peace with his passing, she longed to see him. However, that was not possible. Instead, she heard in her mind's ear, the faint sound of her father's preaching from one of his greatest sermon's of all time.

"God is the Great I Am," her father bellowed from the pulpit. "Whatever you need right now, at this very moment, God can be that for you. Love? I Am. Joy? I Am. Peace? I Am. Today, let Him be the 'I Am' that you need."

Judy opened her Bible to her father's reference for the basis of his sermon -- Exodus 3:14 which says, "God said to Moses, I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you." (NIV)

Judy wept. That day, she knew her heavenly Father had sent the Holy Spirit to soothe her sadness and be to her what her earthly father could no longer be -- an everlasting source of comfort and healing guide to ease her pain.

If you are feeling sad due to some tragedy or loss in your life: Today, let the Great I Am be all that you need.
