Consider the lilies
by Susan Colpitts

With each stitch
A worry enters her head.
She pauses,
Puts down her needle and thread
To look at lilies by the garden shed.

Arrayed in
The whitest of white and green,
In splendor
They grow and seldom are seen,
Finer than a king's robes have ever been.

Consider
The lesson these flowers show.
Neither toil
Nor spin the wild lilies grow.
Will God not clothe and take care of you so?

Stop striving
And thinking how you will fare.
The body
Is more than what clothes to wear.
Seek first his kingdom and he will take care.

She picks up
Once more her needle and thread
Stitching thoughts
Of hope and casting off dread,
Trusting God to provide like his son said.
