My Softest Shoes
by veronica cressey

I thought I'd walk with Jesus,
maybe I'd step His way.
Was told the road was long and narrow
and it wasn't walked in one day!

I took this advice aboard,
put on my softest shoes,
little did I know
that I would be
sharing in His good news!

I watched Him like a hawk would,
I heard all He had to say.
Witnessed Him shake a hand or two,
I never got in His way.

I took His advice aboard,
shaking my softest shoes.
I had this awful feeling
He was about to make front-page news!

Jesus informed His brothers,
sisters, little children too.
You need to treat each other
as you know, I do unto you.
Don't ever let disputes
my friends,
claim the upper hand.
I often think of His words,
only now, can I understand.

I left Him at Gethsemene,
dark days, as He sweated blood.
I hunkered down in the still of night,
surrounded by a sea of mud.

The waves had claimed the sand
as He was hanging like a string of pearls,
His mother wept, I cried out loud;
You belong in another world!

I know He went to Heaven.
I also know He walks with me,
As I look to my left and right,
His footprints are so clear to see.

As He gave me His last words,
put on His softest shoes,
I have a feeling
He knew
I would be sharing in His good news!
