Return To Sender
by PamFord Davis Letters are often left unopened and marked, return to sender. There may be simple problems of being delivered to the wrong address; the person moved away or died. If it reached the right party and they refused to accept it, the letter returned to the sender. Today much of our contacts are sent via e-mail. Messages can simply be deleted and sent to trash. The New Testament gives us a refreshing slant of the return of property. Onesimus ran away from his master Philemon. His path led to a relationship with the Apostle Paul and personal encounter with Jesus as Lord. Paul wrote his old friend Philemon explaining his plans of sending Onesimus back home. "Perhaps Onesimus was taken from you for a little while so that you could have him back for good, but not as a slave. Onesimus is much more than a slave. To me he is a dear friend, but to you he is even more, both as a person and as a follower of the Lord (Philemon 15-16 CEV)."
