Hannah's Song
by Nellie Shani

To hold a little one in my arms
Would have been like a healing balm
Each time Peninah commented
My heavy soul was tormented
Elkanah was not enough for me
For a mother I wanted to be

Tears became my daily bread
As I wept each night on my bed
I felt like I had been forsaken
A woman with sorrow overtaken
Until the day to Shiloh I went
To receive from God I was bent

Oblivious of all around me
Determined for God to hear me
I prayed to God with all my heart
Making sure that I did my part
Said Lord see my misery
Today please remember me

Lord give me a little boy
So I can also know some joy
I will give him back to you
Always only your will to do
Heeding only to what you have said
No razor will ever touch his head

Didn't know Eli was looking
As favor from God I was seeking
When will you stop your drinking
She is truly drunk he was thinking
I am a woman in great distress
Entreating my God me to bless

The desire of your heart may he give you
From anguish of soul may he relieve you
In due time He answered my prayer
Showing he is a God who truly cares
For little Samuel was born to me
A prophet of God he was meant to be
