Kayla's Christmas Dream
by Karie Spiller

Kayla was excited as Christmas approached. She had been doing a lot of things to prepare for this day. She had sung in a musical at church, baked cookies and heard lots of stories about Jesus' birth.

Now it was Christmas Eve and her and her family went to church. They sang pretty songs and heard others sing about Jesus birth too. After church Daddy read the Christmas story and she went to bed.

When she finally fell asleep, she had a dream. She found herself in a small house. A young girl was kneeling by the fire and a bright light filled the room.

"Mary, you will have a son named Jesus, He will save His people from their sin," a voice said.

Kayla smiled as the angel's light filled the room. Then almost as instantly as she had come to the house she found herself on a road with Mary and Joseph.

"I hope we get there soon," Mary said as she put her hand on her tummy.

"Don't worry my Mary, we'll be there soon and you can rest," Joseph said kindly.

Kayla walked with them to Bethlehem. The streets were crowded as many people had come for the census. Joseph knocked on many doors to see if there was a place for them to sleep. At each house and inn they heard the same thing.

"There's no room."

Finally they came to a house and the people there were very nice and let Mary and Joseph stay in a stable with the animals.

Suddenly the scene changed and Kayla found herself in a field with the shepherds. Sheep lay about and all was still. All of a sudden there was a blinding light and Kayla had to shield her eyes from it.

Then she heard a voice say, "In the town of Bethlehem a Baby is born. He is the Savior, Who is Christ the Lord!"

Kayla ran with the shepherds to the stable. When she got there she saw a tiny baby in a manger. She smiled as she looked at him. Mary was kneeling by the manger and Joseph came over to her.

"His name is Jesus."

"He is so small and beautiful," a shepherd said.

The shepherd took out a flute and played a quiet lullabye for the baby.

"Kayla, would you like to hold Baby Jesus?" Mary asked.

Kayla smiled and sat down on the hay. Joseph placed Baby Jesus in her arms and He smiled at her.

Kayla kissed his forehead and said, "I love you Jesus."

Then she heard laughter and woke up. Jeffrey and Bethany were holding their stockings.

"It's Christmas. Let's go see the presents under the tree," Jeffrey said.

Kayla smiled and got up. She followed them to the tree but stopped at the manger scene.
There in the stable was baby Jesus.

She picked him up and said, "I love you Jesus. Thank you for dying for me."

Then she went to the tree with Jeffrey and Bethany.

It was the best Christmas she ever had.
