Good Luck Charm
by PamFord Davis

Do you carry around a rabbit's foot, lucky penny or four-leaf-clover as a good luck charm? Most of us do not, but it might surprise us to learn how many do. Elvis recorded a hit record with Good Luck Charm for the title. It brings back fond memories, because my dad commented that he liked it.

Charms are closely related to idols. When we turn to any object seeking protection or prosperity our eyes are turned away from God our provider. "Our God is in the heavens, doing as he chooses. The idols of the nations are made of silver and gold. They have a mouth and eyes, but they can't speak or see. Their ears can't hear, and their noses can't smell. Their hands have no feeling, their legs don't move, and they can't make a sound. Everyone who made the idols and all who trust them are just as helpless as those useless gods (Psalm 115:3-8 CEV)." Cast away the charms and cast your cares upon the Lord.
