Goodbye Mama
by Nellie Shani

Death keep your presence at bay
You have taken my mother away
As I look at that empty bed
Of one who so deeply cared
Hot tears roll down my cheeks
Like a stream flowing over a creek

Your wheelchair broods in a corner
The curtain flutters like a banner
An icy wind blows though your room
Like a widowed bride looking for her groom
Death do keep your presence at bay
For you have cruelly taken my mother away

Why did the sun rise today
It should also have stayed away
Surely how could you rise as usual
When her demise is so brutal
I beseech you death keep your presence at bay
You have taken a part of me away
