Miracle in the Mud
by Marijo Phelps Velvet jewel growing Through garden dirt Pushing up, sunward Surrounded by that which nourishes Yet appears as common mud Drawn by the light Soon to break forth In resplendent bloom Of soft purple petals Giving joy to beholders As your fragranced flowery self Stretches out to worship Our resurrected Lord He is risen! He is risen indeed! This was written reflecting on the beauty of the garden flowers that comes out of mud and dirt. Yet that is where they get their nourishment while they are growing towards the Sonlight. The mud doesn't spoil them but gives them sustenance. And my thoughts went to our Lord, buried away in the tomb, possibly in a muddy hillside. I was thinking about how He burst forth in God's perfect timing, from death into resurrected life. Jesus paid that price of an awful death on the cross for you and for me. Resurrection Sunday is more than a calendar marked holiday. It is the celebration of the day and the act of incredible love that can set each and every one of us free for eternity. Have you been resurrected into new life?
