Patience
by Bob Valleau

Patience stood on the edge of a cliff. She was about to take a step that would end her miserable life forever when a blackbird landed on her shoulder.

"Whatchu doing?" asked the bird.

"Huh? You said something to me? A bird that can talk?" said Patience.

"Yep. I asked whatchu doing?"

"I'm about to end my life. It has become unbearable for me to go on."

"What's your name?"

"Patience."

The bird laughed.

"What are you laughing at?"

"Your name. Sounds silly considering what you are about to do."

"What do you mean?"

"Your name is Patience, yet you don't have the patience to wait upon God to take care of you. Take me for instance, I know not where I'm going half the time. I don't know where my next meal is coming from most of the time. And I certainly don't know how long I'll be here on the earth. Yet, God takes care of me. I just live."

Patience pondered the wise bird's words for a moment.

"I can see your point," said Patience. "I suppose I should just live life and trust God that everything will be okay, is that what you are saying?"

"Yep," said the bird. "Well, I best be going. Don't ask me where because I don't know."

"Wait. Before you go. What is your name?"

"Hope."
