Our Eyes Upon the Lord
by Marijo Phelps

What are you looking at, gazing upon, focusing your eyes towards? Is it your list of things to do for today? Is it the bank statement or checking account book? Is it the novel you are currently engrossed in, your family or the antics of your children or even your pets? Is it your loved one's eyes? Ah, now we are getting "warmer" and closer to what would be the very best. To be totally focused and engrossed with your loved one's eyes and heart. I know those times, sometimes. And those eyes which captivate mine belong to my Jesus. We need to have an eternal focus and not be caught up with the cares of this world although there are many things here and now that need maintaining, aren't there? Think of your Lord and Savior looking you in the eye and speaking to your heart:

Child, your eyes are upon Me. You seek Me and I AM is at your side. I love you so very much and receive and delight in your love for Me. Come into my presence with Thanksgiving and with song. I take delight in you just as you are. Selah.

In Psalm 69:30 The psalmist is stating that he will praise the Lord's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. How many things do we have to be thankful for? If we started "running the list" we could truthfully be here for a long time. Even if we don't have much in the way or material "things" most of us have SO much in the way of relational and spiritual blessings. With all the promises in the Word of God why should we be afraid?

Psalm 95:2 encourages us to come before Him with thanksgiving and to lift up His name with music and song. Have you ever just started singing a new tune and saying aloud some of those things that you are thankful for? He doesn't care if you can "sing" or not, your voice and heart are so sweet to Him.

In Psalm 100:4 we are encouraged to enter in to His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise, to give thanks to Him and praise His name. Can you imagine an invitation to enter in to the dwelling place of the creator of the universe? We are invited and encouraged and are even told in what manner we can be a blessing to Him. Like the little drummer boy was purported to say in that Christmas song "what gift can I bring to Him?" Well, we can yield up our tongues to Him who created even us and give Him thanks and praise. These two things will and do touch His heart when they come straight from our hearts.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that you delight is song and praise and thanksgiving. You turn us loose to worship you with joy! May we do this more and more even in our own homes. AMEN
