The Cross
by Richard L. Provencher

Light begins to sink
upon the night, redemption
pain and sadness wait,
righteousness swept aside

they tormented Him, our Jesus
shamed Him, scourged
and defiled His kindness, the Word
designed for our salvation.

Lifting His head to the Father,
remembers on His knees
in Gethsemane, the kiss of Judas.
"Not my will but Yours," He intoned

and rising to His feet prepared
for the final journey of our salvation.
Now He represents the sins
of our existence and exchanges
His life for ours. Amen.
