The Encounter
by louis verges

He laid there in the cold
surrounded by the night.
He had nothing left to give,
he had no strength to fight.
He felt the end was close
the time to die was near
but he no longer cared
so he had no fear
the pain he'd known from birth
was so that he couldn't feel
he'd yearned for someone's love
for someone to be real
all he wanted was love
yet all he knew was pain
he still remembered the tears
that use to flow like rain
as he laid upon the floor
with a needle by his side
the only comfort he had
was that soon he would die
a song came to his heart
a hymn from when he was young
a song he heard in church
which many times he'd sung
the words were very simple
words that should be true
I surrender all
I give my life to you
tears began to flow
as he began to sing
and he begun to feel the love
that only God could bring.
He thought he was there to die
but little did he know
he was there to meet the one
who's love he'd finally know.
