An Unconditional Love Letter
by veronica cressey

If I gave up my time for a Sermon,
posted invites for Sunday at three,
and I asked you to leave all your labels at home,
tell me, friends, how many would greet me?
If I sent an email to each person,
come to meet me, face value for free.
And I asked you to leave your possessions alone,
tell me, friends, how many would see me?

If I held in my arms for a moment
A Muslim, Hindu or a Jew,
entertained in my home a Native American,
sharing a buffalo stew.
If I chose to befriend all black persons,
homosexuals, lesbians too.
Don't forget the poor souls who have Aids on their minds,
tell me, friends, is this what you would do?

Stem cells improves health of sick individuals,
medical researchers find.
Prejudice stirred always leaves a residual,
therefore, have you peace of mind?

If I had all my friends thus assembled,
raise your hands, those who never have erred.
Then cast the first stone at your enemy now,
but for silence, you're all lost for words.
If I said we're all brothers and sisters,
One heart beats for all humankind.
A door remains open, your search would be over,
then you will have presence of mine.
