The Sacrifice
by Terry R A Eissfeldt

I'm standing here outside the Gates of Praise
I'm looking in but find that I'm afraid
Afraid somehow I cannot come
Afraid that I will be undone
Knowing You to be Consuming Fire

You are the Gate that opens up for me
Jesus, You alone can set me free
You draw near and lead me in
With Your blood You wash me clean
In gentleness You stir up my desire

From this cleansing tide You bid me come
I look into Your eyes and see the love
Your perfect love casts out all fear
With all my heart I now draw near
I willingly lay on the funeral pyre

Consuming Fire, come and burn the dross
Burn the fear, the pain, the wounds, the loss
Upon this brazen altar flame
Until Your life alone remains
You I trust, for You are my Refiner

You burn away the heaviness and pain
You wrap the cloak of Praise on me again
Ashes gone, the Joy has come
Mourning turned into a song
I will lift the name of Jesus higher

You raise me up and take me by the hand
You lead me to the place that is within
Deep inside the Holy Place
We can talk face to face
You can show me now what You require

I see the Bread of Life You gave for me
I smell the sacrifice You were for me
In Your steps I choose to stay
Near the cross I'll live each day
Never far from You, Consuming Fire

Where I go I know You go with me
Your burning heart is burning now in me
To the captives send me, Lord
To the brokenhearted world
Not my will, but Yours is my desire

I'm standing here before the Mercy Seat
My cup is overflowing with Your peace
There's no room within my heart
For anything but what You are
All other loves consume with Holy Fire
