Near You
by PamFord Davis

Intimacy involves the risk of close-up scrutiny. Some individuals refuse to get near enough to form lasting relationships. We build trust over time, often after many times of getting hurt and disappointed. It might surprise us to realize we are pushing others away, distancing ourselves from those who desire to become close.

God loves us and gives us a personal invitation to draw near. He offers compassion and protection from temptation. "So then, submit yourselves to God. Resist the Devil, and he will run away from you. Come near to God, and he will come near to you (James 4:7-8a TEV)." Each step we take, we draw nearer to him and farther away from our accuser.

We forget how blessed we are to not be alone. The title Emmanuel, God with us is not to be set aside for the Christmas season, but for us to ponder all year long. He is near you and me, just a prayer away and always hears our cry.
