Poems from Another Lifetime Part 7

TREASURE LOST

Perhaps losses led to gain
Better weight and measure
To see what one attains
When one "looses" a treasure

Not really out of reach
In value the gem does grow
A lesson this does teach
One that I now know

Having opportunity to compare with others
The gem's true value I see
I appreciate it so much more
When it comes back to me

When treasure is hard to clasp
We realize its true being
Only then can we grasp
This lesson's truest meaning

The treasure out of hand
Becomes so much dearer
Just think, I'd never have known
Had this gem stayed nearer.

PROMISE

We promised always to tell each other
Yet I really don't know how
To tell you that there's someone else
Who I'm in love with now

UNLOCKED AND PAINTED

I want a chance to know you better
As a person, as a man and as a boy
Give me another chance to reach for the key
Which might slowly unlock the secrets of the total you
If all goes well

And in return for that chance to try
I will let you watch the brush
Which is constantly painting the total me

In time we might come to know
The two selves
Unlocked and painted
If all goes well

LOVE AND COMMITMENT

For so long it has not come to me
Yet I have that feeling now
Always retained
It needs only to be awakened
From its drowsy sleep
Awakened by subtle prodding
From without
A prodding felt
At the soul of within.

ODE TO YOU

A minute with nothing in it
A thought for you
A minute seems too long to waste
But I take two
A minute for you
Every one of every day
Many of my minutes
Are spent this way
A slave of a minute
An hour, a thought
But your slave is something
That I am not!

This is part of a series of poems which were written years ago before I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Some were written when I was a professing atheist and an alcoholic. If you have read my pieces since I came to Jesus I think the contrast is evident.
