The Psalmist at the Gate
by Jan Ackerson

Dear God, let me enter Your gate!
Thanksgiving makes sorrows abate;
Only You I adore--
I shall sing evermore,
A cleansed and redeemed reprobate.

Jehovah, I enter Your praise--
How holy are all of Your ways!
In a crucibles heat
You refine and complete,
And Youve numbered each one of my days.

My Father, I enter Your will,
So impatient for answers, until
You bid me to wait
As You sweetly create
For mepathwaysif I can be still.

O Lord, let me enter Your rest!
I long to be sheltered and blessed--
Ive too many cares,
Disappointments and snares;
Im crushed, overwhelmed, and distressed.

Sweet Jesus, I enter Your peace,
And here, let all thoughts of self cease.
In surrender divine
My will becomes Thine;
To You all my plans I release.

Now, Abba, I enter Your grace
Where You wash every tear from my face.
Unworthy, defiled,
And yet wholly Your child--
Your mercy and love I embrace.
