My reflection on John 16:24: "Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full"


As long as you are self righteous, then you don't need a savior. As long as your heart is filled with hate, then no joy will come to you. As long as Jesus is one of many options, then he is no option at all. And as long as you can take him or leave him, then you might as well leave him, for he won't be taken halfheartedly.

But when you are in sorrow, when you find yourself lost in the darkness, when you get to the point of despair because of your sins, when you are burden with heartache, and when you admit that you are lost without Him, then call out to Him to rescue you, for He is always waiting in the midst of the storm saying, "Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest" (Mathew 11:28).
