Gullible Gert
by PamFord Davis

Gullible Gert traces her lineage to a large family tree. I'm sure I must be a long lost cousin clinging to one of the branches. I'm not sure if I fit the label of naive or simply easily deceived but, if it takes one to know one, I'm elbow to elbow with others carrying on the family line.

Don't be too quick to decide we are not related. You may be more easily swayed than you believe. It all began back yonder in the fertile land of Eden. The garden grew not only trees of bountiful fruit, but also some of the biggest whopper lies recorded by man. Satan in the form of a serpent dished them out, and Eve ate them up. Hmm

The father of lies is still up to his old tricks. He makes them in more varieties than remedies for the common cold, and peddles them as widely as the old west medicine man pushing his cure all tonic. A lie is a lie no matter how cleverly disguised and they penetrate deep within gullible minds, his primary target of attack.

Do you remember his conversation with Eve? (Genesis: Chapter 3) Read it through and see him for what he is: clever, cunning, a master at his craft and a bold-faced liar. He placed doubts in Eve's mind and temptation before her eyes. Maybe she misunderstood God's commands

We can't choose our family of birth, but we can train ourselves to think before we believe every message that comes our way. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world (I John 4:1 NAS)." I reckon Gert won't miss me if I slip from sight.
