Sticking Out Your Tongue
by PamFord Davis

Did your elementary school provide class pictures? Fayetteville-Manlius school system did not even offer individual portraits. Each year photographers grouped us by rows, taller students standing in the top back rows, short people sitting in the front row. I was easy to find, always seated in the front row.

Group pictures seem to bring out the joker in any crowd. A quick scan of the yearly photos would usually reveal the class clowns. Boys seem to get a thrill from making silly faces. They frequently stick out their tongue at the camera. Teachers are not amused and parents are embarrassed.

Apparently sticking out the tongue is nothing new. "Whom are you making fun of? Whom are you insulting? At whom do you stick out your tongue (Isaiah 57:4a NCV)?" Our parents taught us better manners than that; the heavenly Father expects us to be his courteous representative. There is only one appropriate time for sticking out the tongue; say ahh!
