My Sat Nav to Life!

Gripping the steering wheel of his car tightly, Jim stared at the advertising boards outside the off-licence liquor store where he had stopped. "Latest Festive Prices. Smirnoff 2 for 20.00." He froze; his pulse racing, his mouth dry and his head pounding. He had recently given his life to Christ but was recovering from alcohol abuse. Jim needed a drink.

Just two days prior Jim was listening to his pastor preach on the power of God's word and Spirit as the source of inspiration and authority. Quoting from Hebrews 4:12 he had said, "The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." Jim's pastor had gone on to say that the word of God does not operate alone and is, in fact, called the sword of the Spirit in Ephesians 6:17. God's word and God's Holy Spirit always work together. The word reveals and the Spirit empowers. Jim heard these words ringing in his ears as he gazed at the open door of the shop where he was parked: "it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." He heard himself whisper through clenched teeth, "O Lord, I 'm weak right now. Lead me not into temptation and deliver me from evil."

Instantly it seemed a steel belt around Jim's chest just snapped. He took a deep breath and suddenly realised that the craving had passed. He relaxed his grip on the steering wheel and dropped his gaze. Suddenly he became aware of the fact that the car's engine was still running and his satellite navigator was still lit up. The little arrow was pointing to the right and a tender female voice was saying, "Turn right at next junction." Jim burst out in a fit of uncontrollable laughter. "O my Lord, your word and Spirit are my Sat Nav to life!"

God-tracking is navigating by his word and his Spirit.

Happy tracking

Dudley

Quote of the Week
A Sample of Dudley's Fave Quotes

"The word of God hidden in the heart is a stubborn voice to suppress. " --- Billy Graham

Don't Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!

A Lamp to My Feet

Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.

Pray
"Father God I realise now that it is only by the inspiration and direction of your word together with the lead of the Holy Spirit that I will be able to stand up under life's trials. Please forgive me for the times that I have neglected your word and done things in my own strength. Today I decide to turn to your word for guidance and lean on your Spirit as my strength in everything I do. Light up my path and lead me in the way ahead. You are my strength and the lamp to my feet. Amen."
