Fear Not
by Jasti Victor "Fear not," said the angel Gabriel, to Mary, "for thou hast found favor with God." "Fear not" were the words Gabriel, had spoken to Zacharias, when he was burning incense in the Holy Place of the Temple. The same salutation was made by Gabriel to Daniel 500 years earlier. Fear not, said the Lord to Abraham and Hagar, when they needed Him most. Though Moses talked and walked with God, he was still assured by the Lord God, to "Fear not." Joshua, Gideon and Jacob, from the Old Testament, were also told by the Almighty to, "Fear not." The term "Fear not" was stated many times in the Bible from the Book of Genesis to Revelations. Gabriel was named as the angel, and in others it was simply mentioned as the "Angel of God." In the Old Testament it was mostly as the "Lord," and in the New Testament it was mentioned as said by "Jesus." "Fear not," said Jesus to Simon the fisherman, "from henceforth you shall catch men." Jesus also used that term "Fear not," to tell that the very hairs on one's head are numbered and that we are more precious in the sight of God. He also said that we should seek first the Kingdom of God, meaning that we make Jesus as the Lord and King of our lives. In the Book of Revelations, Jesus said to John, "Fear not; I am the first and the last." It means that even though we are convicted and sentenced by our sins, Jesus alone can save us from eternal damnation. "Fear not" said the angel of the Lord to the shepherds in the field who were keeping watch over the flock by night. Glory shone around, and they were sore afraid, but the angel assured that they bring good tidings of great joy. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. So as we celebrate Christmas, let us spread the good word, without fear that "unto us is born this day in the city of David a savior, which is Christ the Lord."
