Mattatall Lake
by Richard L. Provencher

I straddle the current
with a cherry wood paddle
canoe's bow accepting
new directions,
a light breeze crosses
my prow, canoe surging
wind pointing the way.

I am a silhouette lurking
at water's edge,
sharing a loon's call
during morning's delight,
thankful for the yoke
of rising sun.
