Petrol to Proceed
by PamFord Davis

We begin to squirm as the gas gauge plummets; we dread another fill-up. Some postpone the inevitable until the warning light alerts them. Why do we procrastinate? Will it be cheaper down the road? There is no guarantee of a reduced price; the price fluctuates and the possibility of running out of gas is real. We must have petrol to proceed.

We begin to feel uncomfortable as peace and self-control ebbs away; we hate to confess our need to be refilled with His Spirit. "And don't get drunk with wine, which [leads to] reckless actions, but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18 HCS)." We ignore the warning signs of irritability and discontent. Why do we wait? His mercy and grace is always available, and paid in full by the sacrifice of His Son. We can do nothing without Him!
