The Flavour of Jesus (3) - direction
by Richard L. Provencher JESUS made the supreme sacrifice on our behalf, by dying on the cross. All kinds of snares awaited our entry into the world, threatening to change Gods intended plan. He protected us. Before my stroke in 1999, canoeing was a precious pastime. For those understanding the needs and preparation for the simplest journey, one must be organized. Having the proper paddle (a duck paddle) is for the Stern man, who powers and steers the craft. Like the Bible, a tool to use. Launching a canoe is exciting, easing it into the water then placing one foot in at a time, and hunching down until seated comfortably. Most importantly is a marker in the distance, perhaps a tree to guide us, a place to head for, a goal to follow. This directional guideline is important, as is Jesus in our lives. Our canoe is soon thrust forward from each J-stroke. Yet the wind continually tries to change our course, as does life and the many paths it offers. But a goal is in sight and nothing should make one veer from the watery path. Otherwise an unplanned meandering journey may take us to places we wish to avoid. I believe God created Nature for our enjoyment, and His Son remains a spiritual guide. He is with me each time I do anything, remembering how He steered me on past sun-filled days. My wife and I continue to follow His directions, and so thankful for the flavour of Jesus in our lives. * * * (c) Richard L.
