Remember His Words
by Michael Okyere Asante

"Then they remembered His words." (Luke 24:8, NIV)

One way of dealing with sorrows, trials, persecution, and temptations is to remember Jesus' words of comfort, joy, eternal life, and encouragement when these trying moments come our way.

When "Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them" went to the tomb of Jesus, they were greatly troubled at what they observed--an empty tomb. They only got comforted when two angels of the Lord appeared and reminded them of what must be fulfilled--the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day:

"He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, "The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." (Luke 24:6, 7, KJV)

By remembering the Word of God, the women were able to deal with their worry. It worked for them because they had already believed the words of Jesus. So they needed not argue with the angels. They just needed someone to remind them of Jesus' words, and that was sufficient.

How do you deal with worries and sorrows when they come? How do you deal with trying moments and disappointments? Are Jesus' words enough to calm you down?

From today, apply yourself to daily study and meditation of God's word, devote yourself to prayer, and share your faith with others "so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground." (Ephesians 6:13, NIV)
