Why Do We Hurt and Need Healing?
by Marijo Phelps Did you ever think about how wonderful it would be to live in a perfect world? One where you didn't get hurt or need healing? One where we all treated each other the way we should from the beginning and there was no need to ask forgiveness or be humble and face that person we said something unkind to? We aren't in heaven or utopia. We live on earth with real people, making bad choices and honest mistakes and sometimes choosing to be hurtful. The flip side of this is that we are "works in process", we have the capability to learn from bad times and choices and grow through our errors in judgment and sometimes awful choices. And once again I hear that "still, small voice" whispering encouragement to me through toe sometimes rough road we are traveling called LIFE: Oh, my daughter, there is so much for you to learn. Healing flows not undimmed by human tears, where freedom is found. Allow Jesus access. His healing balm flows through you. Daughter there are others who need my touch where you are. I will bring them to you and as you lift me up they shall know deliverance and health in my name. See my life flow freely forth, beauty out of ashes. Your scars can heal others as I have healed you. Don't cover them up (scars) share in love. One of my favorite scriptures that is sometimes a mouthful is found in Corinthians, 2 Corinthians 1:4 who (God) comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (NJKV) In James we are encouraged to confess our trespasses to one another, pray for one another that we might be healed. We are then reminded that the effective, fervent prayer of the righteous man (woman) avails much. Why are we told to do this? So that we will all know that we are going through similar things. We are not alone in our bad choices or mistakes. Also, so that we can learn from others that there is hope, healing and forgiveness. Forgiveness can set a person free. Sharing not only helps with that process but encourages us in our walk with God. 1 Corinthians 14:3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. (NKJV) Prophesies edify, exhort and comfort us and that has to be a great thing. Romans 15:5 Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus. (NKJV) Basic good input on how to live and grow together is spoken in this scripture. How many of us couldn't use a bit more patience and ability to comfort those who are in our lives? 2 Timothy 1:6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. (NKJV) The Lord has given us all gifting, do you know what yours are? Isaiah 61:3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified." (NKJV) Jesus can be our all-in-all if we allow Him to be. We then learn from Him and can reach out to others being His arms reached out and His hands extended right here on earth. Prayer: Dear Father, please help me to reach out in your name. Help me to share the comfort with which You comforted me. Help me to be an unclogged vessel for your use daily, in my Jerusalem! In the most wonderful name of Jesus I pray, AMEN. this poem was written when I was a teenager and it sort of sums this all up: Contrast Love plants seeds, some seeds don't grow, But it all seeds did, love wouldn't show. If we had no black, then one might say That black was white and night was day. Having no grief or pain to bear, We'd have no joy, no happiness to share.
