Dear God Tracker

Take That First Step on the Ancient Path of Faith

Tracking the plans and purposes of God is an ancient practice. The prophet Jeremiah reminds us to stand at the crossroads and ask for the ancient paths. Walking the ancient paths is a process that can only be done by faith in God. Hebrews chapter 11 begins: "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for," (Heb 11:1,2). One of these ancients was a man called Abraham who was credited with righteousness, because of his faith in God's promises.

At the start of the story of this man of faith we read that God gives Abram (as he was then known) an instruction to move. He says, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you," (Gen 12:1). Canaan was unknown to Abram and it was, indeed, a very daunting task for this 75-year man to uproot his loved ones and set out on a journey to a foreign country. Nevertheless, Abram embarks on a trek by foot across hundreds of miles of unforgiving desert terrain, obediently walking the ancient path of faith.

Abraham's long life was filled with faith challenges. Sometimes he tried to work God's plans out for himself but failed miserably. (This fact, by the way, proves that Abram was a bloke just like you and me. His righteousness was only credited to him by God because he dared to believe God. In the same way our righteousness comes only if we dare to believe the message of Christ.)

God Tracker, have you heard the Lord's call to move on? Have you had a sense that the Holy Spirit is stirring your heart through the Word of God to embark on a mission to move? Everywhere you go, the message seems to be the same: "I have a plan for you but you need to be ready to take a step faith." Like Abram, only by simple obedience will you ever discover that track of life that God has designed for only you. And, like Abraham, you will be blessed beyond your wildest dreams if you are willing to take that first step on the ancient path of faith.

God-tracking is daring to step out in faith.

Happy tracking.

Dudley

Walk By the Ancient Path of Faith

2 Corinthians 5:7
We live by faith, not by sight.

Pray
"My sovereign Lord, I know that you have designed a plan for my life. I know that you have called me to serve you and to follow in the footsteps of Abraham by walking by faith. And yet, Lord, I admit that I am afraid. I don't know what the future holds but I do know that you hold my future in your hands you are there already, my Lord, meeting my needs and preparing my path. Help me to obey this call and help me to take that first step of faith. Give me clear instructions and help me, like Abraham, to embark on the journey and follow your call to move on. I choose now to not rely on my own perception of my circumstances but to walk by the ancient path of faith. In the name of my Lord Jesus I pray. Amen."
