Foolish Actions Speak
by Dwayne Harris

"The fool has said in his heart, there is no God." Psalms 14:1

Many people have used this verse to rebuttal those who openly stand and declare there is no God. I am not arguing with such use of this truth, however, I also believe that we must carefully inspect ourselves as "Christian" to insure that we are not falling into the same category. You may say, "I would never say there is no God!" Perhaps not, but consider for a moment that your actions could be doing just that.

Have you ever declared something as truth, yet lived contrary to it? Is it possible that we could say Jesus is Lord of our life yet live solely under our own direction and desires? Surely you have heard the saying, "Actions speak louder than words." The Bible tells us in Proverbs 23:7, "For as he thinks in his heart, so is he." That being said, we must now realize that the psalmist was not only referring to those who openly denounce there is no a God; but also addressing those who proclaim Him with their mouths and yet deny Him with their actions.

What is your heart speaking? Is it contrary to the words of your mouth? We must learn that confessing Christ as the Lord of our lives has less to do with our words and a lot more to do with our actions. Only when we follow his chosen path, rather than our own, do we truly confess that there is a God. It is then; people will see the example of God's love and power to sustain his children in the midst of life's pressures. This powerful display will make even the biggest fool admit, "Surely there is a God."
