A Letter To My Address
by Dale Linton

Churches today have more tools and more access to spiritual information than ever before, yet generally the rank and file membership struggle with life's challenges like never before. It would appear that our "fuel light of understanding", regarding spiritual truths has begun to illuminate more frequently.

I believe all of us share in a great temptation to react to failures inaccurately, whether that's through self examination or directed toward others. We very often revert back to the law in our attitudes and inwardly declare "you're just wrong to do that". That isn't or wouldn't be untrue in itself however; generally we are aware of something wrong within, but have given up because we can't fix ourselves. The void lies in the quality or quantity of the knowledge of the truth which educationally provides the "starting line" for all of us to become who we were meant to be. So what we're looking for, and need is deeper spiritual knowledge, especially concerning ourselves.

The reality of this educational challenge increases when we consider; do we recognize when this knowledge of the truth is being presented to us? Unfortunately, the answer is no. So not only is education needed, but we must be spiritually educated to recognize the spiritual education that we need. Why is this true? Because our enemies greatest tools are found in the strategy of keeping us in a state, which takes no notice of what we don't know about spiritual matters.

We are living in a world and a society that promotes answers that are not providing solutions. Life is increasingly becoming a maze to where it seems impossible to find true fulfillment. Then every once in a while God will channel some unlikely individual to say something so simple, yet so profound, like this:

Soak Up the Sun
Sheryl Crowe

Its Not About Having What You Want
Its Wanting What You Got

This strikes at the heart of some of our deeper issues. Here are some good questions; how do I ignite the desire to want what I already have? Why am I not satisfied with what I have, when I went to great lengths to get it? If I don't really want it anymore, did I, or do I need it? Do I know the difference between what I want and what I need? Is there a relationship between wants and needs? All these questions should and do have answers within Gods word, available to the body of believers, Gods church.

A Compass

Every year at the beginning of training camp Vince Lombardi would hold up a football and say, "Gentlemen this is a football!" He was doing this when in the previous season this very group of players had won the national title. Why? He continually was returning to the foundational principles that made and continued to make his team winners.

Returning to foundational principles every year seems to fly in the face of progressive logic. However, in spiritual matters going back to move forward sounds a whole lot like dying to self in order to receive life, and is profoundly "the way". We must allow the Lord, or truth ,to lead us in the same foundational direction.

The ability to fruitfully navigate a spiritual journey, flanked by destructive outcomes on one side, and supernatural potential on the other, is relative to God given depths of understanding within the knowledge of the truth. The nature of this knowledge surpasses any preconceived impression of how it will affect us. The reality of what God gives us are victories in a confrontation between our source of life and attempts to steal it. A significant outcome of the victory is in being illuminated to the confrontation that was raging on within us, whether we perceived it or not.

My hope and prayer is to be a vessel used to present pieces of a puzzle that may greatly benefit other people. I consider myself to be one that receives even in a role of presenting because the Truth has the ability to "cross-pollinate", bringing worth in unification. In doing so, we may become one entity whose cohesive focus is held by something bigger than self. Now the stage is set for deeper and deeper revelation into the power that achieved the unity, the truth. It has been my privilege and my struggle to respond to the truth in my life. This is a request to present a vision of the truth that will find a perfect "on ramp and intersection" to others life's highway.

I have a desire to see the body of Christ edified. Within the broad spectrum of edification I feel there exists a great need and opportunity for spiritual education at foundational levels. Please contact me about speaking at your church. Dale Linton 410-378-5035 or [email protected]
