The Church Today
by Deborah Ann Belka They say I sound too preachy, and that for me to win a soul I need to be friendlier and not be so loud and bold. They say that I offend others, when I talk about their sin and that if I don't tone it down their souls I will never win. They say the King James Bible, is too stuffy and too old that the Word comes across better when the watered down version is told. They say they only want to hear, about a Gospel that is full of love not the one of fire and brimstone that will fall from the skies above. They say they want to 'feel good', as they sit in their cushy little seats and to put away all the old hymnals so they can hear music's pounding beats. They say they want a preacher, who will joke and kid around but nowhere in my Bible . . . is this kind of leader seen or found. They say they must take down the Cross, as some are bothered by the Crucifixion and that is why the church seems like . . . a page right out of a book of fiction!
