It's All in the Attitude
by Bobbi Richardson Daniel 3:19 (NIV) - Then Nebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual. Nebuchadnezzar had a bad attitude. He was selfish, easily angered and egotistical. In contrast Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were confident, sure of God's care and unafraid. Their good attitudes allowed God to demonstrate His power. Nebuchadnezzar's attitude changed after witnessing their faith and courage. As Christians our attitudes should be like Christ's, "Though He was God, He did not demand and cling to His rights as God. He made Himself nothing; He took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form He obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal's death on a cross. (Philippians 2:6-8-NLT) We live in a culture that says we should demand our rights, but Jesus gave up His rights and came to live among us as a servant. Jesus was humble, gentle and kind. He did not strive to get what He could for Himself, but made the needs of others His priority. He gave His life for others, both as He lived and taught and when He died and rose again. These were not popular attitudes then and they are not popular now. It takes faith and courage to demonstrate these attitudes daily, but like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, we can be confident that our Father will take care of us and walk by our side always. With attitudes of humility, gentleness and kindness; by giving up our rights for the good of others, we allow God to work in the hearts of those we come in contact with every day. When they see our faith and courage perhaps their attitudes, like Nebuchadnezzar's, will change. I write because I want to share what Father God has taught me and because I want others to experience His love more and more.
