A Call of Early Settlers
by Richard L. Provencher An old wagon trail overcame a hilly climb wheel ruts dug deeply in the mud of ancient days my footsteps following with history on my mind. Left early this oyster morning and sought out any old farm long abandoned yet alive in its natural heritage and early struggles in time. I sought to explore such treasures where homesteads shed memories in haste as families moved on. Then I discovered an old well among other items scattered in disarray and other implements of worth inside the joy of earlier days heralding brave settlers who arrived before my time. Now I satisfy an urgent need exploring ruts across the ridge where tracks once went onward. Richard L.
