A Voice Like No Other
by Bob Valleau

Sometimes the voice is loud, shocking you to your senses. Sometimes the voice is soft, comforting you in your darkest hour. But, sometimes, the voice is silent for you already know what it will say even before you speak.

It is a familiar, friendly voice. It has called your name a thousand times. Others have heard this voice, too. In fact, it is a voice that thunders with authority. It commands your attention, and it lovingly demands your respect.

Without this voice, you are lost -- wandering aimlessly in a wilderness or running in circles upon the sands of a deserted isle. This voice speaks to you words of encouragement. It brings you peace when you are troubled or faint of heart. It inspires you to endure when you want to give up.

This voice is not a disembodied sound with no attachment to a soul. This voice is pure. It is unique. Sometimes, when you hear this voice, you want to kneel in prayer or raise your hands in praise. You desire to follow it wherever it leads. You realize this voice has a name like no other for it belongs to Him whom we call: Yahweh, Elohim, El Shaddai, Adonai, Jehovah, Yeshua, Immanuel. In other words, the one and only true . . . Almighty God.

"The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice." (John 10:3-4, NIV)
