My Trusted Friend
by

Life's journey led me down the pathway,
That taught me how to constantly watch and pray.
Many hardships I have encountered,
But Grace I received, though I faltered.

The dry and dreary land, wherein I did meander,
Was a wilderness, without any refreshing water.
Some outstretched hands, that appeared to be friendly,
Was the essence of deception veiled very cunningly.

There were vicious eyes, they saw me only for what I was worth,
Others sped by speedily, leaving behind squirts of dirt.
Some relationships I personally took for granted,
My selfishness caused us to be regrettably parted.

My shield and buckler were missing faith and Truth,
Love was absent, it was yet another fruit.
Happiness was occasionally part of my daily life,
While patience hung in there, with much strife.

The absence of peace, created such a great shortage,
The enemy in and around, was constantly on a rampage.
I longed for the fullness of joy with all my heart,
Sometimes so confused, not knowing where to start.

Some acquaintances were mistaken for friends,
They caused me much pain, which I couldn't comprehend.
Some were masqueraders, life to them was meaningless,
Others were mere spectators with no hope of my success.

There were trusted ones who never ceased to amaze me,
With their songs of deceit and their strange melodies,
They echoed loudly, with such deafening sounds,
Killing my trust, leaving me with love on the rebound

Then to my surprise, I found a most trusted friend,
While searching for hope, in the midst of the lion's den.
He was a special gift to me, I did realize,
The sacrifice he paid, to cancel my demise.

My friend! My friend! I would never let you go,
You are more precious, than all the love I will ever know,
Close to my heart you will forever be,
Stand by my side and forever stay with me.
