One Big Family
by Bobbi Richardson

John 13:31 to 17:27 are Jesus' final words to the men closest to Him. They had lived with Him, walked with Him, listened to Him and watched Him. They knew who He was and loved Him.

After Judas left, Jesus spoke of what would happen shortly and He gave one last command: to "love one another". His final instructions to those who followed Him were to love as He loved. To love each other and by loving to demonstrate His love to the world.

Before His arrest He prayed for those disciples who were present and then for all who would know and love Him through their work. His final prayer was for the unity of all who believe in Him. His desire is for us to be one with Him as He is with the Father.

As believers we want to please Him and His desire is for us to love each other. All of us who have been redeemed and rescued by Him are His family. Those of us who know and love Him are brothers and sisters. As God's children, we are to love and forgive each other; to speak gently to and about each other; to build each other up; to pray for and help each other and to work together for good.

It was our Lord's desire that His followers honor each other above all others so that they would be able to face the terrible times ahead. It is still is His desire that we support each other and gently help fallen brothers and sisters to stand and walk again.

In His final hours Jesus spoke of and prayed for unity among those who know and love Him.

He gave Himself for us; let's give ourselves for others, especially our brothers and sisters in Him.

I write because I want to share what Father God has taught me and because I want others to experience His love more and more. My prayer is that my words will inspire someone to seek Him, to find Him, to know Him, to love Him.
