We Choose to Believe
by Bobbi Richardson

John 12:37 (NIV) - Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.
John 12:42 (NIV) - Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue

As Jesus walked this earth He gave His life for those He came in contact with each day. He spoke words that encouraged others to trust Him. He performed miracles that demonstrated He was the One promised by God. His every word and action opened the way to reconciliation, hope and freedom.

Every life He touched was changed somehow. He presented a challenge to each one who heard Him. Everyone who followed Him had a choice.

Some refused to believe.

Even after following Him, listening to His words of hope and love, watching Him heal, seeing Him perform miracle after miracle, how could they not believe?

Too concerned with physical needs or at ease with their physical comforts, they would not look beyond the here and now. They saw only what they wanted to see, heard only what they wanted to hear and stubbornly refused to consider that there may be another, better way to live.

We live and work with many who are like this today.

Others believed in Him but were afraid to acknowledge their belief. Their lives did not look any different. Fear of what others may say or do paralyzed their faith.

There are still those we know who are like this today.

Then there were others whose eyes were opened, whose hearts were touched and who chose to believe Him completely. What they saw and heard inspired them to listen to His Spirit and try to live out that belief daily. Those who, like us, put their trust in Him, accepted His gift of forgiveness and live forever with Him.

We are the redeemed of the Lord and we praise and thank our Heavenly Father for His Spirit who opens our eyes so that we can see, our hearts so that we can know and guides us every day into opportunities to demonstrate our beliefs in ways that others can see.

I write because I want to share what Father God has taught me and because I want others to experience His love more and more. My prayer is that my words will inspire someone to seek Him, to find Him, to know Him, to love Him.
