The walk To Emmaus
by

Our teacher is gone, now what shall we do,
We have lost the best, for no one can place their feet in his shoe,
He was so gentle and kind, with patience untold,
Lovingly he dealt with us, as sheep of his fold.

Jesus drew near to listen the conversation,
While our eyes were blinded without a notion,
He saw our sadness and gently questioned what we were discussing,
In alarm we asked," from where are you now appearing"?

We told him the sadness we just recently experienced,
But he acted so calmly, when we were bereaved and tensed,
Our hearts burned within, as he spoke so dearly,
Yet we did not recognize our Savior who had risen already.

We shared with him, the brutal treatment the mighty prophet received,
By the hands of callous men, filled with hatred and jealousy,
He stood before the chief priests and scribes, who represented the council,
Yet with boldness he declared his authority, before the elders of the people.

They accused him of blasphemy, when he said he was Christ,
So they led him to Pilate, who in him found no guilt,
Because he was a Galilean, he was under Herod's jurisdiction,
So off he was sent as mockery, for that clown's amusement.

Back to Pilate, our Savior was shuffled again,
Who sentenced him to be flogged, not caring to inflict further pain,
His conscience was pricked, so he offered them an option,
Between our Lord and Barabbas, to give an injunction.

But they cried, "Away with him and give us the murderer",
While Pilate was confused at these religious instigators,
Three times he asked, "What evil has this man done"?
But they cried, "Crucify him and let his blood be upon our shoulders".

He was despicably treated, although he was innocent,
They acted as wolves without any conscience,
Brutishly piercing his hands and feet,
Fastening them on the cross, proving their defeat.

They crowned him with prickly thorns and briars,
Causing blood to flow down his marred face as he perspired,
His shoulders hung so loosely on that old rugged cross,
The emblem of our lives which was once lost.

Vinegar they gave him, when he cried, "I thirst",
They got a sponge and unfeelingly shoved it in his mouth,
He hung there limp-less as his life ebbed away,
Then he uttered his last words, without further delay.

Alas he cried out, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me"?
When the burden of sin ruined his personality,
The father disconnected the bonded attachment,
It was sad, but our Savior knew the involvement.

At the end of his assignment he cried out, "It's finished",
He closed his eyes and bowed his head, as his strength was diminished,
In his side they heartlessly plunged a sharp spear,
Causing blood and water to mingle in despair,

Homeward bound he went to regain his glory,
After finishing a job that was done so righteously,
Then darkness came and consumed the entire earth,
When our Savior descended to hell, to conquer death and regain our mirth.

Now we are left alone to continue what he has begun,
But God knows we have missed him and long for his return,
Not knowing he was walking right there by our side,
As we shared our sorrows with him and cried.

He listened attentively to our sad story,
Then explained the scriptures about Jesus and his identity,
That Moses and all the Prophets have foretold,
To enlighten the world of his mission that must be unfold.

His teachings reminded us of our lost Messiah,
So we diligently constrained him to join us for dinner,
As usual, he took the bread, blessed it and lovingly gave it to us,
Then our eyes were opened to behold the one, who was crucified on the cross.
