The Morning After
by PamFord Davis

As I begin this new day, it is "the morning after" No, I do not refer to the morning following a big party. It is the morning after my birthday; happiness abounds for the many expressions of love sent my way. Words carry great influence; happy birthday is not a poetic phrase and yet no sonnet could brighten a day more. Each greeting was a message of encouragement and blessing upon my year ahead.

An unexpected gift arrived at my house by special delivery. God wrapped His birthday wishes inside His inspired word. A beautiful bow secured the familiar passage of Matthew 7:7-11. I untied it and it will cherish it as a yearly keepsake of His unconditional love. The promises of verses 7 and 8 are anchors for the soul: ask and receive seek and find knock and it opens. The concluding verses circled my birthday on the calendar. God compared the gifts of an earthly father to those sent below by Him.

"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him (Matthew 7:11NAS)!" Loving parents give good gifts as evidence of tender love; the Heavenly Father lavishes us with perfect gifts picked out especially with our individual needs in mind. He goes to His treasure chest and earmarks them for times of special need. I receive His gifts of love and hope; this could be the best year yet!
